Megan Thee Stallion has done it again.
The twenty-six-year-old rapper has dropped another music video, filled with sexy outfits and various forms of booty shaking.
And it’s brilliant.
Yes, there is a method to Megan’s madness. Ever since she’s become a big name, many of Megan’s critics have repeatedly attacked her for embracing her sexuality and her confidence. It happened during her collaboration with Cardi B in WAP, as well as her best-performing single Body. It’s no secret Megan loves to twerk and show off her beautiful body, with the backup dancers being no exception as they follow her lead.
This has infuriated many. Ben Shapiro, everyone’s least favorite conservative commentator, made a hilariously bad video taking apart WAP. Not only did he say having a wet pussy is bad ( ironic coming from a married man), but he also complains about the vulgarity of the lyrics and says this is what feminists have solely fought for. First of all, it’s a rap song — plenty of rap songs are filled with cursing. Not only that but there is also a clean version of WAP. Secondly, one of the core values of feminism is allowing women to express themselves freely, including sexy dancing.
Shapiro wasn’t the only one who has voiced his disgust about wet female genitalia: James P. Bradley and Tucker Carlson, to name a few. So, when Thot Shit came around, the music video featured a nameless white politician. He starts off by watching Body and adding a mean and unwanted comment. Then, he gets harassed by Megan and her army of beautiful dancers. They twerk in his office, in the grocery store, in the diner where he eats, everywhere.
Now, in the video’s opening, Megan calls the senator after he makes this comment and rattles off her own version of Tyler Durden’s speech in Fight Club. She says, and I quote, “Look motherfucker. The women that you are accidentally trying to step on are everybody that you depend on. They treat your diseases, cook your meals, they haul your trash, they drive your ambulances. They guard you while you sleep. They control every part of your life. Do not Fuck with them.” Then, the music video is filled with women twerking wherever the senator goes, showing that he cannot escape women no matter where he goes.
Basically, this is an open letter to all the people giving Megan and other women grief for embracing their sexuality. For years, men have told women they have to be prim, proper, and withhold any sense of sensuality. If women show any enjoyment of sex or talk about it, they are promptly shut down They’re automatically labeled as whores or, in Megan’s case, a ‘thot.’ Instead of shying away from this label, she has embraced it. Megan is confident in her body and her talent. She has gone platinum, gained various endorsements, and all of her music videos have millions of views. Are people allowed to dislike her? Yes, they are. Art is subjective, and music is art. The issue is these naysayers, primarily men, are going out of their way to slut-shame and degrade Megan. It’s not just her, of course: women are constantly being shamed for enjoying sex and being confident with their bodies.
Here’s the bottom line: absolutely no one is forcing people to watch Megan’s videos. There isn’t a person pointing a gun to your head, demanding you go to YouTube to watch Megan and her dancers shake their bottoms. All you have to do is just not watch the video or listen to the song. While people are allowed to have their opinions, slandering Megan for being sexual and confident is wrong no matter how you look at it. No matter their gender, no one deserves to be disrespected for embracing sensuality and liking their body.
